The Roger Albert Clark Rally 2009

TMB continues to be actively involved in Motorsport and recently have been helping with servicing on the Roger Albert Clark Rally in the North of England and Southern Scotland, including the notorious Kielder Forest.

The Roger Albert Clark Rally brings all the best bits of rallying together - the cars are the ones that evoke some of the best feelings and spirit of rallying. So many of these cars have a history, the tales they could tell if only they could talk.

Tony Thompson and Peter Grant were competing in car no 37 - a 2.3 litre Vauxhall Chevette HSR - out on the RAC for the very first time.

Loaded up

In fact it was a day of firsts - Tony was competing on his first Roger Albert Clark having wanted to do so for some time, it was also the first time the whole group had met together - Tony Thompson (driver) Peter Grant (Co-Driver); Ed Graham and Graham Nichol (Management vehicle); Paul Hudson and Tosh Townsend (Service); and Neil Edgar (who proved invaluable ferrying trailers around and generally assisting where needed). It was also the first time the service crew had worked together, and the first time Tosh had ever serviced on a rally.

The weekend started really well, the car was looking fantastic and promising great things, although it was fair to say that everybody was starting to learn in their own way - getting familiar with the car, the crew and also how to work together for the event.

The event started with excellent weather on Friday lunchtime at Pickering Showground, and with Noise test and Scrutineering passing without a hitch, it was particularly nice to see another Chevette taking part in the shape of car no 11 Rob Smith / Shaun O'Gorman.

It's always good to see a smiling crew and Tony and Pete were in great spirits as they left scrutineering, and brought the Chevette back to the Service Area for a thorough spanner check. Nothing untoward was found and so there was little to do but have a cuppa and wait for the start time.
